Our Latest News - April

April Update

The barrier baskets and large planters still looked bright and cheerful; this was especially pleasing for us as many of the bulbs were re-used/recycled from previous years as an economy measure. Meanwhile, the naturalistic planting in the Secret garden yielded fritillaries, cowslips and vinca.

Regular Sunday morning gardening sessions continued throughout the month, working still on Patmos garden and the other public areas; also beginning the process of plant removal on the Peace garden ready for its make-over next month.

Behind the scenes, members of the team worked hard lobbying for funds and managing the sale of hanging baskets to local businesses.

Improvements and replacement of the raised vegetable beds at Castle Hill school garden was completed during the Easter holidays, and new wood chippings were laid on the path. Gradually we are replacing some of the plastic bottles that form the walls of the greenhouse. The young gardeners have been very busy and peas, beans, potatoes and insect friendly seedlings are growing well.
