September Update

We were thrilled that Yorkshire in Bloom awarded the town ‘Gold’ this year in the annual ‘In Bloom’ competition. Their report included many complimentary remarks, for example that the displays this year really had the ‘Wow factor’. Michelle Hartley, landlady of the Waggon & Horses in Walsden also achieved a gold award in the public houses category, and she attended the ceremony at York Races to collect both awards.

As usual the team had a stall at the Incredible Edible harvest Festival; we donated seeds, and bunches of herbs, also ran a raffle of garden related items, which raised money for our funds. We were lucky to have a lovely sunny day, and lots of people showing interest.

The barrier baskets and large planters continued to put on a beautiful display throughout the month, as did the hanging baskets. Sunday work sessions were held weekly throughout the month. Unfortunately, due to ill health it was not possible to restart the Castle Hill school garden club when term started.

Plans are underway for next year’s projects which will focus on the World War 1 centenary.
