Our Latest News - May

May Update

This was a very busy month. In addition to the regular Sunday sessions, many extra hours were put in to remove and split the perennials from the Peace Garden ready for fresh compost and replanting. We were fortunate to have fine weather as this was a long process! Many of the plants will be re-used and recycled in other sites.

The spring flowers in the barrier baskets and containers lasted well, but very dry warm weather meant that some finally dried out before we were ready to install the summer bedding. This was planted on a very hot day; but we now have dahlias, lobelia, petunia and bacopa to make a pretty summer display.

Our fund raising market stall went well. We sold many plants including some from the divided plants in the Peace garden and some herbs grown by pupils at Castle Hill school garden.

Sadly we have decided that the Open Gardens event that we had hoped to run again this year, will not now be taking place. Unfortunately, insufficient people were able to participate to make it worthwhile. However, we do expect to run our usual town Garden Competition.
