March Update

Early in the month, the spring displays in the planters and barrier baskets bloomed well, with the yellow and blue violas putting on a very cheerful show. This was followed by the white tulips which looked very striking in the spring sunshine, and were well proportioned for the size of the baskets.

Sunday morning gardening sessions continued, with some focus on the Sensory Garden next to Patmos. There had been some damage to the roses around the memorial, which needed attention, and there was plenty of weeding to keep the team occupied. The mahonia on the back wall provided lots of early perfume for local people to enjoy while resting on the adjacent bench.

The garden club at Castle Hill school restarted this month, with some very enthusiastic year 3 pupils sowing seeds of peas and broad beans in the greenhouse, and planting seed potatoes in bags. Refurbishments of the raised beds continues, and the pupils now have a smart bench to sit on.
